The Austrian National Day

The raising of flags at kindergartens, schools, public buildings and homes celebrates the regaining of independence.

Every year different celebrations take place:
For athletes, there are numerous fitness events throughout the country, including walking and cycling.
Families visit Vienna Security Festival at Rathausplatz and can get information about the police, fire brigade and rescue.
For culture lovers, the Vienna Museum opens it’s doors for free. There are also discounted tickets for various federal museums.
In addition, the state opens its otherwise not publicly accessible premises such as the official residence of the Federal President in the Vienna Hofburg or the parliamentary hall.
The military has been organizing a parade in the Wiener Ringstraße every ten years since 1995 and is celebrating this day with oath of allegiance.
On the Vienna Heroes' Square there is the exhibition, where the federal army shows its tanks, weapons, helicopters and much more.
The 26th of October also declared the Austrian National Parks a "National Park Hiking Day" and offers free guided tours.
